|We offer two different types of power supplies; low voltage transformers and LED drivers.
A Low Voltage Transformer takes in electricity at a higher voltage and lets it run through lots of coils wound around an iron core. Because the current is alternating, the magnetism in the core is also alternating. Also around the core is an output wire with fewer coils. The magnetism changing back and forth makes a current in the wire. Having fewer coils means less voltage. So the voltage is "stepped-down." These transformers work with halogen lighting and cannot be used with LED lighting.
LED's require a device that can convert incoming AC power to the proper DC voltage, and regulate the current flowing through the LED during operation. The driver converts high voltage to low-voltage DC power required by the LEDs, and protects the LEDs from line-voltage fluctuations.An LED driver is the power supply for an LED system, much like a ballast is to a fluorescent or HID lighting system.
